An essential source of toxicological information for chemical emergencies is
coming free to the World Wide Web.
The International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS) has secured funding to
provide the IPCS INTOX Databank on the web, free for one year, starting in July
The databank, a collaboration between CCOHS and the World Health Organization's
IPCS, rapidly retrieves essential chemical information. Poison centres and
others can use it to help identify a poison and its toxicity, as well as
determine the likely clinical effects and the most appropriate patient
The databank also includes a unique collection of monographs from more than 100
experts, which provide advice on the prevention and treatment of poisoning.
