Lübeck – The Dräger X-zone 5000 combines the advantages of mobile and stationary gas measuring and detection technology. The portable device monitors a radius of up to 45 meters and gives a warning when dangerous gases occur. Several devices in combination monitor proportionally larger areas.
The Dräger X-zone 5000 is particularly well-suited for industrial plants and systems monitoring. The area monitor is placed in locations where gas leaks are expected. Continuous monitoring is possible and a warning is emitted before people enter hazardous zones. In itself, the X-zone 5000 cannot measure gases. Gas measurements require a portable gas measuring instrument, either the X-am 5000 or X-am 5600 that is plugged in and then communicates automatically with the area monitor. In this way, the X-zone 5000 simultaneously detects and gives warnings of up to six explosive, flammable, and toxic gases.
The X-zone 5000 works continuously for up to 120 hours without an external power supply. It allows gases to enter from all sides and emits a visual and audio warning within a radius of 360 degrees. The 108 decibel alarms are clearly heard even in a noisy or cluttered environment.
Wireless alarm chains
Users can expand the monitoring radius by linking several devices. This works either via a wireless radio circuit over a distance of up to 100 meters or using cables. Up to 25 area monitors can be linked automatically for an alarm chain. In case of danger, the detecting device sends a signal to the linked devices, after which all devices emit an alarm. The danger location is easy to identify: The triggering device has a red alarm, the remaining ones a red and green one.
Measuring in confined spaces or containers
The X-zone 5000 can monitor air in confined spaces (for example in industrial tanks) with the optional pump which sucks in air from the respective container from a distance of up to 45 meters. Alternatively, an area monitor placed in the tank sends the alarm to a device located outside of the tank.
Identifying dangers and initiating countermeasures
The optional switching stations, X-zone Switch On or Switch Off provide additional safety. In the event of an alarm, the switch-off box cuts off the power supply (for example, to welding apparatus) in a split second. The switch-on box activates a ventilation device or a traffic light for access control, for example. Both switching stations can be connected to the potential-free alarm contact of the X-zone 5000 and are approved for use in Ex-zone 1.
The X-zone 5000 has a Zone 0 explosion protection certificate and can therefore also be used in ignitable atmospheres. It can be used in a temperature range between -20°C and +50°C and is resistant to dust and water as specified by its IP 67 certificate.
The device does not require any function test or calibration during its 120-hours of continuous use unless the work environment of the device changes. The device is tested once on site before use with the help of the Bump Test Station or the E-Cal workshop solution.
