Younger workers are vulnerable, as they often are inexperienced, and ignorant
of risks to themselves and others. It is important to integrate safety and
health into education so that young people are aware of the risks they might
face and are capable of dealing with them. It is also important for employers
to pay extra attention to the safety of young workers, including students
taking summer jobs.
Young people are especially vulnerable in the workplace. Across Europe, 18 to
24-year-olds are at least 50% more likely to be hurt at work than older people.
Young people are also more likely to suffer from an occupational illness.
