British PPE manufacturer JSP is up for the Innovation of the Year award at the highly prestigious SHP IOSH Awards for its revolutionary FilterSpec PRO, a unique combination of safety goggles and disposable respirator in one integrated unit.
JSP’s FilterSpec, a version of FilterSpec PRO with safety spectacles rather than goggles, has already scooped the prestigious Frost & Sullivan 2011 North America New Product Innovation Award, where it was branded ‘a remarkable product, unique in its market.’ The Award honoured JSP for identifying and addressing an under-met requirement of the safety market and making a distinct mark in the industry.
FilterSpec PRO solves the problem of incompatible safety goggles and disposable mask by integrating them in a way that allows both protective devices to work independently, but in harmony, at full effectiveness and with a perfect fit. It helps satisfy HSE concerns on the quality of the fit and eliminates the enduring problem of leaky masks, lens fogging and wearer discomfort.
The FilterSpec PRO is suitable for all types of manual work, including power tooling, in environments such as construction, industrial, automotive, veterinary, clinical, dentistry, industrial cleaning and hygiene. The combined unit also solves any of the problems associated with silica dust, a serious issue in the construction, excavation and demolition industries. The FilterSpec PRO is economic and durable, and using it means that only one piece of PPE and not two is required for storage, maintenance and resupply.
Now in their fifth year, the SHP IOSH Awards, given for achievement in health and safety, are the highlight of the health and safety calendar, at which winners will be presented with a trophy, one of the most coveted in the profession. The Judges will look at the scale of the achievement and/or how well the initiative worked, rather than how much money or other resources were spent on developing it.
Mark Johnstone CEO at JSP commented: “We are honoured to have been shortlisted for such an significant award, which is a reflection of the quality of the hard work the JSP team has put in to conceiving of, and developing, the product. We are proud to bring fresh thinking and new concepts to the health and safety industry.”
The winners will be revealed at a ceremony and dinner to be held on Thursday, 20 October 2011 at the London Hilton, Park Lane. For more details of the awards, see http://www.shp-iosh-awards.co.uk/
