Recognizing and Rewarding Excellence in Physicians Work

The US National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) released the 2002 annual
report "Making a Difference: Recognizing and Rewarding Excellence".

The past two years have seen the launch of several initiatives designed to
recognize and reward individual physicians for delivering high-quality care
and/or investing in clinical information systems. NCQA has introduced or is
developing three such programs: the existing Diabetes Physician Recognition
Program (DPRP), a forthcoming Heart/Stroke Recognition Program (HSRP) and a
pending Physician Office Link program designed to encourage investments in
technology.

This year’s report profiles each of these efforts and spotlights individuals
who, through a range of innovative approaches, are helping to improve health
care quality.
