Scott Health & Safety Ltd.

The Scott Safety Super Heroes

Hayley Hardman, Tradeshow Coordinator, EMEA and Graphic Designer Ivern Forde discuss their latest creations for this year's A+A.

Hayley: Scott Safety attends numerous trade shows throughout the year, each targeted at an industry that we are present in. It could be anything from large Emergency Services Trade Shows to small table tops at partner events. A+A is one of our largest European shows for the Industrial sector. Each show has different target audiences and objectives but one thing they all have in common is that the Scott Safety stand needs to be noticeable. Anyone who has attended any kind of trade show knows how difficult it can be to achieve this.

Scott Safety’s stands are crisp, clean and identifiable, all certainly good things but for the upcoming A+A Industrial Safety Show in Dusseldorf, Germany, I wanted to push the boundaries. But how?

I began by brainstorming new ideas with Ivern and the rest of the Marketing Team. We laid all ideas on the table with a rule that nothing was too ridiculous to suggest. It was really enjoyable and great to hear how many ideas the team had. It wasn’t long though till we had our new concept and the perfect hidden talent to make it happen….Ivern. Little did we know but Ivern was not only a great digital graphic designer but he could also draw.

So what was our concept……..”The Scott Safety Super Heroes”. Our innovative products help people all over the world, in hazardous and often dangerous working environments to do their jobs so that others can remain safe. They are #ScottHeroes.

We undertook user testing to help us drive the concepts, poses and body language that would work best for our heroes. Fortunately we had members of the team who volunteered to help with this. This gave Ivern a strong foundation for his initial sketches.

Ivern: It was really great to have the opportunity to work on something really fun and different to what Scott normally create. Hayley provided me with creative direction but I was still allowed creative flow to draw the characters how I thought they could be. We focused on the 4 key products we wanted to promote at A+A and from there the ideas grew. It was really great to work with the whole team to refine the characters in to their final looks.

Hayley: Once we had an initial concept we conducted market research to ascertain what the possible user response to these designs would be. Surveys and informal interviews with 50 participants via email, phone and face-to-face, ensured we had a good cross-section of our target audience over a variety of media. Fortunately the overwhelming majority loved it. Participants felt the new concept was eye-catching, fun, innovative and unique, everything we wanted it to be.

We have had some mock-ups of how it will look on the stand once it is built next week and they look amazing but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about seeing the end result. The whole team have worked so hard on this project so all fingers and toes are crossed for next Tuesday 27th. Personally I can’t wait to meet the #ScottHeroes.
