A new report on asbestos, commissioned by the Environmental Protection Agency,
concludes that the federal government should ban all importation and use of
asbestos and do a better job of enforcing the laws that are supposed to protect
people from the deadly mineral.
The report, which is now being circulated in draft form, but which is scheduled
to be completed before the end of May, calls for many actions that have been
advocated for years by occupational and environmental health activists.
