UK Businesses Failing to Meet New Quality Management Standard

BSI Management Systems warned UK business that the low percentage of companies
that have transferred to ISO9001:2000, the updated international quality
management standard, could lead to both compliance problems and reduced
competitiveness.

Those that don't transfer before the end of the year will face problems as the
old standard is withdrawn and they no longer meet the supplier specifications
of many of the big UK buyers.

Although the UK is level with the current global estimate of 19% it is behind
specific regions such as the Far East where Europe traditionally faced stiff
manufacturing competition and 31% of companies have transferred to the new
standard.
