Protecting Agricultural Workers from Tractor Hazards

Most farmworker injuries and deaths are caused by tractor incidents such as
overturns, runovers, power take-off (PTO) systems, and unintended contact with
tractor attachments or implements. Employers are responsible for ensuring a
safe work environment for every worker.

A new fact sheet, published by the US- American Occupational Safety and Health
Administration, provides employers with information about these tractor
hazards, along with safety measures and General Safety Precautions to protect
tractor operators. These include

  • Inspections and review

  • Safety checks

  • Indoor safety precautions and

  • Highway safety.
