Maintenance workers come into close contact with a broad variety of often
hazardous chemicals. Depending on the specific type, these chemicals may not
only cause diseases like skin sores or cancer, but many of them are highly
flammable and explosive. In addition, workplace safety depends on risk
awareness. Employers and workers need to know what dangerous substances are in
the workplace and how to deal with them. Two publications focus on the specific
risks related to various dangerous substances that maintenance workers in
chemical plants and in general are exposed to, and give some basic
recommendations on how these risks can be tackled, including some best practice
examples and hints for successful communication in the workplace about
dangerous substances.
