A questionnaire of ageing control for industrial facilities has been prepared
by the French Institut National de l'Environnement Industriel et des Risque
(INERIS) and Steinbeis Advanced Risk Technologies to carry out a comparative
study on industrial facility ageing. The study is expected to provide an
overview of current methods and operational practice of ageing control in
high-risk industrial facilities.
A significant proportion of industrial worldwide facilities have been in
service for many years. In France for instance, the majority of active
refineries were commissioned more than 50 years ago. Although these facilities
have undergone process developments, the issue of ageing still exists; the
issue is all the more relevant due to some incidents that have occurred in the
past few years with human as well as environmental consequences.
The main objective of the study is to compare the recommendations or
obligations - present in regulatory texts, standards and professional guides -
with the actual practices observed in the industry. The comparative study is
carried out by means of a questionnaire, which may be followed by target
interviews.
