Alcohol interlocks to stop drink driving

The European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) is organising a "Safe and Sober
Talk" in the European Parliament on 6 October 2010, 12:00 - 14:30.

In 2007 ETSC started a campaign on drink driving, called Safe and Sober. The
objective of this activity is to raise awareness amongst policy makers, the
private sector as well as key opinion leaders for a systemic approach to reduce
alcohol misuse in road transport, especially in commercial and passenger road
transport.

Alcohol interlocks have became an important tool of the national strategy on
reducing deaths from drink driving in several Member States. A co-ordinated
approach at the EU level could be beneficial for all EU countries. This event
jointly organised by the Swedish Abstaining Motorists' Association (MHF) and
the ETSC is an occasion to discuss the role of alcohol interlocks in the new EU
road safety strategy for 2011-2020. It will be held on the 6th of October 2010
in the European Parliament, in Brussels.
