Nanotechnology is a word used to describe a wide variety of different
technologies and materials that share one thing in common - their very small
size. Because of the wide range of technologies it is more correct to refer to
the field of nanotechnologies.

The British Health and Safety Executive (HSE) does support a programme of
research work to understand the risks presented by nanotechnologies so that it
can advise on the adequacy of existing occupational regulatory frameworks and
the regulation of the emerging risks.
