EkoTek® personal security system for the University Medical Center Mainz

Multitone Elektronik International GmbH has planned and implemented a comprehensive EkoTek® personal security system for the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at Mainz University Hospital to protect staff and patients.

The Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy treats the entire spectrum of mental illnesses and provides full care for the city of Mainz.

Patients from outside Mainz can also be treated at the clinic, especially if they have special symptoms that require treatment at a university hospital. With 126 in-patient and currently 9 day-clinic treatment places, the clinic is one of the largest bed-bearing departments of the Mainz University Medical Center. The wide range of therapies offered enables treatment in all phases of mental illness, from intensive treatment in acute therapy to short-term rehabilitation with workload testing and reintegration aids.

The safety of employees and patients is also the top priority here. To ensure this, the patented EkoTek® personal security system with currently one central unit and around 300 repeaters ensures the safety of over 120 employees.

The small, handy and user-friendly mobile emergency call transmitters can be used to send out different will-dependent and will-independent alarms in case of need, based on radio signals and without the need for complex wiring. The position of the employee is transmitted to the devices of other colleagues, security personnel, a control centre or optionally external services within seconds and to the exact room. In this way, assistance measures can be initiated immediately and helpers can be directed in a targeted manner. EkoTek® thus ensures improved safety for medical and nursing staff and at the same time reduces the workload for security services.

"We wanted maximum safety for our employees combined with maximum freedom of movement without cables and wires. EkoTek® is a very effective system," says Juta Leite Barbosa, safety officer at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University Medical Center Mainz, explaining her decision in favor of Multitone's personal safety concept.

"We are delighted to be working with the Universitätsmedizin Mainz," explains Frank Rotthoff, Managing Director of Multitone Elektronik International GmbH. "For a personal security system, reliable, mobile and permanent availability is crucial. With EkoTek® we are able to cover extensive applications that go far beyond conventional solutions available so far in terms of size and reliability, while still being able to be flexibly expanded at a later date," assures Rotthoff.
