The new Pac Ex 2 gas detection and warning instrument from Dräger Safety is available in two versions: either as an explosion-only detection instrument, or as a combined instrument for detection of both explosion and oxygen hazards. The explosion-only instrument can be easily upgraded to the combined version simply by inserting an oxygen sensor. This is made possible by the plug-and-play function of the oxygen sensor and an easily changeable sensor cap. The smart technology ensures that the additional sensor is recognized by the instrument.
During use, the instrument monitors the concentration of potentially explosive gases and vapours, and of oxygen, independently and continuously. If the adjustable alarm limits are violated, an audible and visible warning is given, together with a vibration alarm. In addition, the data are logged.
The rechargeable NiMHy battery can be separately charged and easily replaced, and an alkaline battery pack can also be used as a power source.

Optimal sensor technology
The ex-measurement is performed by a highly impact-resistant catalytic ex-sensor which works on the principles of catalytic combustion and thermal conductivity, reacting to any combustible gases and vapours which may be present.
For the oxygen measurement, the instrument user can choose between three different electrochemical sensors to reflect his needs with regard to warranty time and lifespan.

Diverse applications
The compact and pocket-sized Pac Ex 2 weighs just 250 grams and is designed for use by fire brigades, in the chemicals industry, in the oil industry, by municipal supply and waste disposal companies, in mining, by telecommunications firms and in shipping. The areas of application are diverse:
" Alerting personnel to sudden escape of gas
" Release of workplaces once they have been verified gas-free
" Protection of staff working in areas in which low gas concentrations are constantly present
" Safety measurements prior to entering confined spaces, shafts, tanks etc.
" Protection of external plant visitors
" Hazard assessment and/or limitation when fire brigades and civil defence and disaster prevention teams face unclear mission situations.
The three-key operation allows the instrument to be adapted easily to the measurement task in hand.
